Fhunded Angels nominated for UKBAA award

News

Fhunded Angels, Lancashire County Council’s pioneering investment initiative for Lancashire startup businesses, is a finalist in the UK Business Angels Association’s (UKBAA) annual awards.

The UKBAA’s Angel Investment Awards celebrate success and innovation within the angel and early-stage investment market. They also recognise the fastest growing brands operating in the angel investment space, and acknowledge the individual investors, syndicates, and organisations, behind them.

LCC’s Fhunded Angels is a finalist in the UKBAA’s Regional Champion category.

This award is devoted to “the trailblazers driving investment across the UK’s regions and nations; championing local ecosystems, sparking inclusive growth, and actively addressing regional imbalances”.

Fhunded Angel Manager, Rory Southworth, said: “Fhunded Angels was only launched last spring, but it has already had an incredible impact on Lancashire’s early-stage funding ecosystem.

“Not only has been able to help four ambitious Lancashire startups get their first foot on the investment ladder, we’ve also been able to use the Fhunded Angels brand to inspire, educate and support over 60 other young, innovative and disruptive companies across the county.”

Amin Vepari, LCC’s Senior Business Finance & Scale Up Project Officer, added: “For LCC to have been shortlisted for a prestigious UKBAA award is fantastic news. It is a testament to not only the work of Rory and the Fhunded team, but also the support we get from our amazing cohort of angel investors.

“I would also like to acknowledge the role played by Lancashire’s Early-Stage Investment Board, the private sector steering group which ensures we provide the best possible finance pathways for all of Lancashire’s business communities.”

Since being launched last spring, the Fhunded Angels – the largest angel network in the UK managed by a local authority – has invested in four early-stage Lancashire ventures, helping them to create new jobs, and unlock additional investment, in the process.

Through Fhunded Angels, LCC has also supported over 60 additional Lancashire startups with specialist guidance and resources.

The UKBAA’s Angel Investment Awards ceremony will be held in London on July 9th, where LCC will be up against eight private sector organisations in the Regional Champions category.

They include Investor Ladder, Twin Path Venture, PXN Group, Haatch, Foresight Group, AwakenAngels, Deepbridge Capital, and Starup to ScaleUp Club.
